What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves placing very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body. It's one of the most widely used complementary therapies and is often combined with physiotherapy, chiropractic or naturopathic care.

Who it helps

Acupuncture is often used alongside other care to help manage pain and a range of other symptoms. Some patients come to us for musculoskeletal pain such as back or neck pain; others use acupuncture as supportive care, for example for nausea after surgery or during chemotherapy. The conditions it's commonly used for are listed below.

What acupuncture is commonly used for

  • Lower back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Fatigue and headaches

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chemotherapy-induced and post-operative nausea

  • Labour pain

  • Depression and anxiety support

Our approach

Your acupuncturist will ask about your health history and symptoms before suggesting a treatment plan. Treatments are adapted to your comfort level, and you can always pause or stop.

Your visit

What to expect

Needles are left in place for a short period while you rest. Most people feel little more than a light tap on insertion, and many find the session relaxing. Let us know if you're pregnant, take blood thinners or have a fear of needles.

Acupuncture is provided by Homayoun, our acupuncturist, and by Dr. Arvin Sepahdoost, who is also our chiropractor.

Acupuncture needles are much thinner than injection needles. Most people feel a light tap or brief tingling and find treatment comfortable.
